Inspiring Creativity, Making Art, Conserving Ecosystems,
Building Community Across the Albemarle Sound and Beyond!
The Peanut Factory, Inc. is an artist residency and community arts program located in a 1932 peanut processing mill in Edenton, North Carolina. It also owns and manages campsites, trails, and more at the 110 acre Spruill Conservation Farm in nearby Roper, North Carolina. The Peanut Factory’s mission is to support artists, writers, performers and other creatives working with themes related to nature. Our Artist in Residence program provides time and space to experiment and develop projects and concepts. We envision a factory of ideas that cultivates the creative spirit in all our communities – a hub for dynamic immersive experiences at the intersection of art and nature.
Call Description
The Peanut Factory is seeking artists whose practices encompass environmental themes to apply for the 2027 Artist in Residence program. We offer residencies lasting from 2 to 4 weeks in duration, which include lodging and studio space. Our residencies are scheduled in two sessions, one in the Spring season, from March through June, and another in the Autumn, from September through November. Summer sessions are reserved for full-time art teachers.
We offer a nature-based residency experience at The Peanut Factory. Artists, writers, and performers can work, create an installation, or develop a performance to present on our stage under the big roof of the renovated peanut processing mill. Residencies may include research at the 110 acre Spruill Conservation Farm, with trails and shoreline, where citizen scientists and university researchers are also invited to work. We ask each Artist in Residence to present an artist talk lasting half an hour during their stay.
